A book of history and photojournalism, a personal story: the life of the photographer Franco Pinna and his peculiar way of living and interpreting Sardinia through images, from 1953 to 1967. When photography was becoming a memory machine, Franco Pinna documented an island of fustian, captured in its daily rituals: photographs of an emotional sincerity, visual memories that come back on the black and white wave of time, in a book that is precious like a work of art.

GIANNI BERENGO GARDIN

Reportage in Sardinia 1969-2006

With more than 50 solo exhibitions and one hundred photographic volumes, Gianni Berengo Gardin is considered one of the greatest Italian photojournalists. He arrived in Sardinia around the ’50s and ’60s of the last century. Through his black and white reportages he has transmitted a rigorous, realistic and at the same time poetic image of Sardinia. It has captured the most everyday aspects of traditional festivals and rituals; a social photograph with a strong character that has the common people as its object and subject, and which emotionally involves the observer.

Federico Patellani began his career as a photographer in 1935, one of the best Italian photoreporters, invented the "photo-text", extensive photographic services accompanied by long captions that he wrote himself. He went to Sardinia several times in

WERNER BISCHOF

In Sardinia 1950

The well-known Swiss photojournalist Werner Bischof was sent to the island to document the poor working conditions of the Campidano peasants and of the miners of the Iglesiente area, finding the balance between aesthetics and objective rigour. In his images there is the daily people’s life more than a land’s, he saw the Sardinia of people not the idea of an abstract race or an offended land.
